Here’s a fascinating piece of soundtrack history that often gets overshadowed by its more famous predecessor. Urban Cowboy II represents the continuation of that remarkable cultural moment when country music crossed over into mainstream consciousness, largely thanks to John Travolta’s mechanical bull-riding antics. While the first soundtrack dominated the charts, this follow-up collection captures the deeper cuts and alternative selections that helped define the honky-tonk revival of the early 1980s. The compilation features a compelling mix of established country artists alongside rock acts exploring their rootsier side, creating a snapshot of how genre boundaries were blurring during this pivotal period in American popular music.
