“A Family Affair” (2026): Violin & bass meet electronics. The Huebner Brothers deliver a gripping jazz-classical fusion. Boundary-crossing & vital.

The album A Family Affair is the debut duo recording by the acclaimed Huebner Brothers, Gregor and Veit Huebner. Captured as a studio production that mirrors their high-energy live performances, this release marks the first time the brothers have distilled four decades of shared stage history into a focused duo setting, blending violin, double bass, and sophisticated electronics.
The release features a boundary-crossing repertoire including original compositions, jazz standards, and reinterpreted classical works. Highlights include ‘Bass Guajira,’ driven by infectious Cuban grooves, and the politically charged ‘Angry Times,’ which reflects the intensity of the Black Lives Matter movement and the New York lockdown. The album also pays homage to the Roma community in ‘Red Hook – New York’ and features a meditative, orchestral-style reimagining of Richie Beirach’s ‘Sunday Song.’ By utilizing loop stations and live effects as a ‘third player,’ the brothers create dense, symphonic soundscapes that remain transparent and poetic.
Gregor and Veit Huebner have been pillars of the European jazz scene since the 1980s, known for their work with Tango Five and Trio Berta Epple. Gregor is a Grammy-nominated composer and professor in Munich, celebrated for his work with the Sirius Quartet and the New York Philharmonic. Veit, a winner of the Baden-Wrttemberg Jazz Prize, is a renowned bassist and cultural curator. Together, they have performed with legends like Randy Brecker and Charlie Mariano.
A Family Affair is more than just an album; it is a masterclass in musical dialogue and innovation. Owners of this record will experience a unique fusion of jazz, world music, and chamber-like intimacy. It is an essential addition for listeners who value technical virtuosity combined with deep, emotional storytelling and modern sonic exploration.
